Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. They often believe it is an island to the west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, this is not true. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet 1 inches." Once I was bigger than my male counterpart then I slowed down. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance by her drama instructor at high school that led her to take the step she required. Teacher who recommended she try to find a role in school's annual play. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
